  • Junior Achievement at Hawthorne

    On February 26th Teaneck High School Students visited Hawthorne School for Junior Achievement Day. “JANJ High School Heroes” program gives our THS students the opportunity to volunteer with Junior Achievement at Hawthorne Elementary School. JA’s activity-based financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship programs are taught over the course of one school day. The initiative is a memorable community service project for the high school students who participate as volunteer role models, as well as a great learning experience for the participating elementary school students.

  • Game Leaders

    Ms. Brantley, Guidance Outreach Worker and her interns worked with our third and fourth graders to train them in playing board games, leading groups, playing by the rules, sharing and working out conflicts. Here our third and fourth graders play board games with our first and second graders during indoor recess.

  • Teachers Receive Nook Training

    On February 26, Hawthorne teachers joined Bergen Reads volunteers in Nook Book training by Barnes and Noble. As a part of. Bergen Reads grant program, Nooks will be available to volunteers and classroom teachers throughout the school day.

  • Bergen Reads Nook Kick-Off

    On Monday, March 2, Hawthorne School welcomed Bergen Reads Coordinator Beth Figman and Co-Coordinator Susan Liebeskind, Serena McDonald from Barnes and Noble and the Cat in the Hat. Bergen Reads kicked off their Nooks in Schools program with Hawthorne. Bergen Reads received a grant to fund four Nooks for volunteers and allow our children and teachers access to the technology during the school day. Children had the opportunity to interact with the technology and meet The Cat.

  • Hawthorne School Celebrates Read Across America

    Hawthorne School welcomed parents, Superintendent Pinsak, Assistant Superintendent McHale and Council Member Yitz Stern to help celebrate Read Across America. The day concluded with a school wide parade of story book characters organized by our first graders.
